Sony Music Japan to Move VERSEⁿ Talents to VEE Project Amidst Project Changes

SMEJ assures that there will still be separate story-based contents based on these talents, and are still separate from other content projects from VEE.

Sony Music Entertainment Japan (SMEJ) has announced that it will be moving all of its talents from the VERSEⁿ project to its continuously expanding VEE project amidst new changes from SMEJ regarding its VTuber projects.

The announcement, dated April 2, will see VERSEⁿ's talents Maru Nanamona, Hitoshiro Itsuki, Kagase Uno, Alba Sera, and Kashi Otoha to the VEE Project, although it is unclear whether they would be considered a new generation or only bearing the VEE branding.

According to the announcement, VERSEⁿ had struggled on the type of content this particular project had. While its talents have now moved to VEE, SMEJ assures that there will still be separate story-based contents based on these talents, and are still separate from other content projects from VEE.

VERSEⁿ is one of SMEJ's VTuber projects, which is focused on creating content-centric initiatives to share the talent's lore. Launched in November 2021, SMEJ planned to create contents such as animation, music, illustrations, novels, and manga accompanying the talent's streaming activities.

It is worth noting, however, that the project had sparsely released original content, including a teaser animation a year ago and its first group song together around three months ago. Moreover, its supposed lore story releases remain unfinished, and is majorly only available in Japanese.

Meanwhile, the VEE Project, launched in July 2021, promised back then to be "the largest virtual talent development and management project in history," according to SMEJ's announcement back then. As of this writing, the project has seven generations with 27 active talents.

The new VTuber project changes comes after SMEJ also announced the closure of its English-speaking VTuber project PRISM Project on March 31.
